Hardware
Strategic device selection, bulk configuration and procurement from industry-leading manufacturers, backed by 50+ years of vendor relationships, 150,000 annual device shipments and deep expertise in total cost of ownership optimisation.
Why it matters
Device procurement at scale creates competing pressures. You need to balance user device requirements with different peoples needs, different capabilities, with procurement efficiency, total cost of ownership and supply chain predictability. Generic device choices satisfy nobody. Overspecs create waste; underspecs generate support tickets and user frustration. Managing device selection across large user populations with varied workloads is complex, but making poor choices early cascades into support burden and financial inefficiency for years.
SCC approaches device strategy as a core business decision that extends beyond purchasing hardware. We work with you to define device personas that map to actual user workloads and roles, knowledge workers, creative professionals, field technicians, manufacturing-floor workers. For each persona, we conduct detailed requirements analysis and vendor evaluation to select hardware that delivers optimal performance, compatibility and value. We configure devices at scale through our National Distribution Centre (NDC) – 250,000+ devices annually through bulk configuration – ensuring consistent security baselines, application stacks and deployment readiness. We draw on 50 years of vendor relationships with Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft, Panasonic and Philips. Our track record: 2,500+ customers across all sectors relying on us to select, configure and procure 150,000+ devices annually.
How it works
Step 1
Define user personas and requirements
We work with your teams to categorise your user population by role and actual workload needs. We gather requirements for each persona – performance expectations, application needs, security requirements, portability, longevity – without assuming device types. Requirements drive hardware selection, not the reverse.
Step 2
Conduct detailed vendor evaluation
For each persona, we conduct capability testing and cost analysis across available platforms – benchmarking processing performance, graphics capability, battery life, weight, screen quality against persona requirements. We evaluate vendor support levels, warranty options and refresh cycles. We model total cost of ownership including acquisition, support, end-of-life and refresh planning.
Step 3
Create device recommendations and build cases
We present recommended device options for each persona, ranked by value for that specific workload. Each recommendation includes performance validation, cost modelling and justification for why that device is the optimal choice. We help you present device choices to budget-holders and secure approval before procurement begins.
Step 4
Procure and configure at scale
Once hardware is selected, we leverage our vendor relationships to negotiate volume terms. Devices are procured and shipped to our National Distribution Centre where they’re configured to your security standards, imaged with your standard application stack and validated for deployment readiness. Configuration automation ensures consistency.
Step 5
Manage ongoing refresh and AI advisory
Throughout device lifecycles, we monitor platform evolution and emerging requirements (AI capabilities, compliance updates, form factors). When refresh cycles approach, we evaluate new platform options and help you plan next-generation device strategies. We advise on Copilot+ and AI-ready hardware timing to ensure you’re investing when value is clear, not chasing trends prematurely.
Ready to move beyond one-size-fits-all device strategy?
Strategic hardware selection starts with understanding your actual user populations and their real workload requirements. Let’s assess what device strategies will deliver real value for your organisation.

FAQs
How do you differentiate between devices that truly need different capabilities versus nice-to-have specs?
We use workload analysis, not job titles. We look at actual processing demands, memory usage, application requirements and user workflows. For knowledge workers, a mid-range processor with solid battery life often outperforms an expensive workstation. For video editors or data scientists, performance characteristics become business-critical. We evaluate each persona against actual needs, not assumptions.
What’s the advantage of bulk configuration at your NDC versus having devices configured locally?
Three things: consistency, speed and cost. Every device receives identical baseline security hardening, standard application stack and validation before shipment. This eliminates configuration variance and ensures every user receives a work-ready device on day one. Local configuration would require your teams to stage devices individually, consuming weeks of effort. NDC configuration takes days at scale and guarantees consistency.
Can you help us think through Copilot+ and AI-ready platforms — how do we know when to invest?
We evaluate whether specific personas have workloads that benefit from AI capabilities today or in the near term. If your power users work with generative tools or advanced analytics, AI-ready platforms deliver measurable value now. If AI is not yet core to your workloads, investing today means carrying unnecessary cost. We help you time investment with actual value emergence rather than following trends.
What if new devices are released mid-cycle — can we revise our device strategy?
Yes. We continuously monitor platform evolution and emerging requirements. If new devices or capabilities become relevant to your strategy, we run evaluation and cost analysis, present options and help you decide whether to expand device options for new procurement. We don’t lock you into outdated choices — we keep your strategy current as the market evolves.
