How do you Manage Software Licenses with all These Changes?
End-of-Life / End-of-Support Management
The management of software throughout the lifecycle is now critical, especially with the significant rise of cyber security breaches. When products go end-of-life and more prominently end-of-support, the security patching is vastly reduced, sometimes completely reduced and therefore puts you at risk.
This regular monthly article will advise you on the highlights and offer links to help you investigate the best remediation to this and to be aware of any licensing changes if upgraded.
Microsoft
- Cloud Services Office 365 ProPlus will be stopping support for Office 2013 this month (February 2017) which will include prohibiting any downloads of Office 2013 in favour of Office 2016
- Support also ends for a number of non-cloud applications released under v 2007 in 2017 – Office, Project, Visio, Exchange, SharePoint

IBM
- End of April 2017 sees a number of products that will be end of support:
- AIX v 6
- Cognos v 10
- Endpoint Manager v 9
- GPFS v 3
- Tivoli TAD4D, ITCAM v 7
- TSM v 6

Oracle
- Oracle SQL Developer v 3.1 ends premier support in Feb 2017, v 3.2 ends in Aug 2017

Adobe
- Acrobat XI Reader / Pro / Std ceases core support 15th October 2017
- LifeCycle ES3 ceases core support at the end of March 2017

Citrix
- XenServer will have maintenance support ceased at the end of September 2017
- All prior versions of XenMobile (current version being 10.x) has all had maintenance support ceased with the final XenMobile Apps for Win 8.1/10 ceasing at the end of March 2017
- Certain models of NetScaler (10.x) are end of maintenance support on 21st April 2017 with other specific models (E.g. MPX 9700) at the end of 2017

VMware
- Fusion v 8 ends general support on 25th August 2017
- Workstation Pro / Player v 12.x ends general support on 9th September 2017
- Integrated Open Stack v 1, 2 ends general support on 10th September 2017
- vCloud Director v 5.5 ends general support on 19th September 2017
- vRealize Automation v 6.2 ends general support on 15th December 2017

Symantec
- PGP WDE Workgroup v 10.x end of support life date is 15th January 2017

Veritas
- BackupExec v 2010 end of support life date is 1st February 2017 and v 2014 is 5th May 2017
- Enterprise Vault v 9 end of support life date is 1st February 2017
- Numerous NetBackup Appliances end of support life date is 1st February 2017
- NetBackup v 7.0 – 7.6 end of support life date is 1st February 2017
