Intel Campaign Mastheads

Device fleets are growing, hybrid work has distributed them. AI is raising the hardware bar and the end of Windows 10 support has triggered the largest PC refresh in a decade.

Most organisations will replace machines, the more considered approach is to use the refresh to raise the baseline across management, security and AI readiness at the same time.

What Intel vPro® adds to the stack

Intel vPro® is a platform-level capability set embedded in the processor. It operates below the OS and independently of it, across four areas.

Out-of-band management.

Intel AMT provides remote access to devices regardless of power state or OS health. If a machine is powered off, stuck in a boot loop or has a corrupted OS, IT can still reach it, access the BIOS, recover the system or reimage remotely. vPro Fleet Services now surfaces this directly inside the Intune admin centre, authenticated via Entra ID. Available through existing Intune licensing, with no additional self-hosted infrastructure required.

Platform stability.

The Intel® Stable IT Platform Programme holds hardware component consistency for at least 15 months from launch, with 99.7% application compatibility across OS versions. That reduces the overhead of deployment waves, driver validation and OS transitions on large estates.

Below-the-OS security.

Intel Hardware Shield mitigates firmware-level attacks and reduces the attack surface before the OS loads. Intel TDT feeds silicon-level threat telemetry into Defender and other endpoint protection tools, improving memory scanning performance by up to 7x and ransomware detection by upto 24%. Intel and Microsoft co-engineered 30 silicon security features into Windows 11. vPro has three times fewer firmware vulnerabilities than the nearest competitor and is the only silicon platform validated against MITRE ATT&CK.

AI-capable silicon.

Intel Core™ Ultra processors with vPro deliver up to 50 NPU TOPS, exceeding the 40 TOPS threshold for Copilot+ PC. Over 200 ISVs already deliver AI workloads on the platform, with 99% AI application compatibility.

How it integrates with Microsoft

vPro® Fleet Services has been available inside the Intune admin centre since 2025. IT teams get hardware-level device access through the same console they use for software-based endpoint management. Entra ID SSO, no self-hosted servers and activation reduced from 24 steps to six.

In practice, Intune already handles policy enforcement, patching and compliance at the OS level. vPro extends that reach below the OS: BIOS recovery, remote power control, out-of-band diagnostics. Defender and Intel TDT work together at the endpoint. Copilot+ PC features run locally on the Intel NPU.

The layers are complementary. Management, security, productivity and AI running on a consistent foundation with a single management plane.

The AI readiness argument

Copilot+ PC features require a minimum 40 TOPS NPU. Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors with vPro deliver up to ~50 NPU TOPS, meeting this requirement. Total platform performance can reach ~180 TOPS across CPU, GPU and NPU, although Copilot+ features are driven specifically by NPU capability.

Local inference capabilities, including large language models up to ~70 billion parameters with 32K context, depend on model optimisation, available memory, and runtime environment rather than representing a guaranteed baseline.

The hardware requirement is the visible part, the less visible part is governance. Deploying AI across an enterprise requires managed, consistently provisioned endpoints with a known security posture. If the estate is fragmented, if management coverage varies, AI deployment introduces risk.

A standardised vPro estate managed through Intune provides the endpoint foundation Copilot needs before the licence conversation starts.

What the evidence shows

A Forrester TEI study commissioned by Intel, based on 500 IT decision-makers, modelled outcomes for a composite 10,000-employee organisation. The findings: 213% ROI over three years. 90% reduction in hardware-related on-site visits. 65% less time on device management.

The July 2024 CrowdStrike outage provided an unplanned test. Approximately 8.5 million Windows devices crashed from a faulty update. Organisations with AMT-enabled fleets recovered remotely in hours. BLG, Canada’s largest law firm, used Intel’s endpoint management tools as part of their incident response. Banorte, Mexico’s largest bank, resolved the issue without dispatching technicians.
