Keeping Evri Moving with Scalable Network Services

Summary

Evri, the UK’s largest parcel delivery company, is powered by more than 8,000 employees and 20,000 couriers serving businesses and consumers nationwide. As parcel volumes grew rapidly, its network came under increasing pressure, making reliable connectivity and responsive support critical to day-to-day operations. SCC helped Evri modernise its network, stabilise services and build a scalable managed service that improved resilience, reduced disruption and supported continued growth.

Our partnership with SCC and Evri has been critical to the success over the past 18 months that we’ve been working together. Right from day one, we’ve felt that partnership approach, which is more than just supplying us technology, more than just supplying us resources and capability. It’s about understanding our business and it’s about reaching beyond what is contracted.

James Adamson, Head of IT Service & Operations

Challenge

As Evri scaled from 100 million to one billion parcels delivered each year, the pressure on its network intensified. Project delivery was becoming harder, service issues were mounting and confidence in the incumbent supplier had diminished. That growth also made the network more critical than ever, underpinning real-time parcel tracking, automated sorting and customer communications. Across 50 depots, reliable connectivity was essential to keeping operations moving.

Evri’s previous IT partner could no longer support that level of demand. They needed a provider with the capability, scale and technical depth to support continued growth. Above all, they needed a partner that could move at the speed of the business and respond to rising operational demands with pace, expertise and consistency.

SCC was the perfect fit. Our expertise and extensive portfolio meant we could meet that challenge, delivering a managed service designed to scale with Evri’s ambitions.

Solution

SCC delivered a comprehensive enterprise networking solution built around Evri’s strategic priorities: modernising infrastructure, improving customer experience and creating a stronger platform for future growth. By combining Cisco technology with tailored service levels and expert engineering support, we created a commercially attractive, scalable managed service, that not only met Evri’s technical requirements, but also improved agility, strengthened customer experience and supported long-term growth.

The managed service introduced real-time monitoring and proactive service management, which helps Evri to identify potential issues earlier, reduce service disruption and maintain stronger operational performance.

The managed service is flexible and continues to adapt to the demands of a fast-growing organisation, including delivering support for new sites and acquisitions. Working with Evri, SCC has helped to standardise networks across 6 new sites and will continue to support any acquisitions or newly integrated businesses.

James Adamson, Head of IT Service & Operations said:

“It’s allowing my teams to focus on strategy, what’s coming next, how we mature our services into the business, and allows us to look at some of the new and challenging technologies which are coming through around automation, […] the expansion of our business, […] how we acquire businesses and merge them into our technology framework.”

Outcome

SCC strengthened Evri’s resilience through configuration hardening, establishing redundancy measures and a lifecycle refresh of the network estate. Network segmentation and policy enforcement also enhanced security, while embedded engineering expertise improved delivery agility and reduced dependence on external contractors.

We stabilised the service, reducing service desk tickets, major incidents and average resolution times. Once that stability was in place, alert volumes fell sharply and service performance became more consistent. Within the first five months, monthly alerts dropped by approximately 95%.

James Adamson said:

“We’ve found that working with SCC, a family-owned business, a UK-based business, really helps in terms of the focus that we know we get from that, the stability of the organisation. We’re looking at this as a long-term relationship, and we want to be able to work well together and consistently together.”

With the service stabilised, SCC and Evri were able to identify and resolve historic issues and vulnerabilities. That gave Evri greater confidence in its network and a stronger foundation for future growth.
