Sustainability

Sustainability at SCC

Responsibility is one of our core values.

We are committed to embedding responsible and sustainable practices into our business which have a positive impact on our people, customers, partners, communities, and the environment.

We have identified three strategic aims to focus on, these are:

01

To reduce our environmental impact to the lowest possible level.

02

Investing and supporting our people and communities.

03

To hold our ethics up to scrutiny and constantly improve our professional behaviours in support of our customers.

The delivery of these aims is achieved through our Sustainability Strategy which incorporates the key areas we have identified to monitor and measure ourselves against.

Incorporated into our strategy is our commitment to supporting the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Since 2015, the SDGs have been used to identify and address a range of environmental and social issues.

Having reviewed the SDGs, we have identified the goals that we can make the biggest contribution towards.

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact.

Through technology, innovation and collaboration, we are always looking at how we can improve.

Reducing our impact

We are supporters of the UN Race to Zero campaign and have committed to the Science Based Targets initiative. We are also working towards being Carbon Net Zero by 2040.

Reducing our Emissions

To support our emissions reduction target, we use 100% renewable electricity contracts for locations we control and have incorporated hybrid and fully electric vehicles into our fleet. Reporting our reduction progress is captured in our Carbon Reduction Plan

Energy Efficiency Projects

Where appropriate, we have removed gas fired boilers from our offices and implemented smart metering and switching technologies. Further reductions have been achieved through our data centre efficiency project and the installation of solar panels on our Birmingham data centre.

Reuse and recycling

We are a zero waste to landfill business. To further reduce our impact, we constantly look at how recycled materials can be incorporated into our business.

Recyclable Materials

We continually assess and adapt our processes to increase the amount of recyclable materials we use.

Refurbishment and Disposal

Our in-house recycling facility provides a range of services to ourselves and our customers. Once received, we can securely sanitise equipment so it can be refurbished and reused or fully recycled.

Supporting our people is embedded into our values.

Family matters to us and we want our people to feel part of the SCC family. We want to be a great place to work where our people feel empowered and supported.

Our people

We have a range of diverse and talented people in our business. Our people are our biggest asset, we want to encourage and develop them so they can achieve their full potential.

Future Talent

Great things happen when you become part of the SCC family. To develop future talent across the business, our successful apprenticeship and graduate schemes support our people in gaining valuable experience and qualifications linked to clear career paths. Working with a range of colleges and training providers, we offer rewarding and structured apprenticeship opportunities.

Learning and Development

Encouraging and investing in the personal and professional development of our people is really important to us. We believe in creating an environment where people can thrive. Our learning and talent programmes provide the support and opportunities for our people to reach their full potential.

Health and Safety

The health, safety and wellbeing of our people, customers and partners is of paramount importance to us.

We are an ISO 45001 accredited business and part of the Achilles, CHAS Contractors Health and Safety scheme and Safe Contractor approved. We also have a range of wellbeing initiatives to support our people.

Diversity and Inclusion

At SCC, you can be yourself. No matter who you are, where you come from, or who you love. We know the value of bringing people with different backgrounds, experiences, personalities, and skills together, and we are proud of our inclusive culture

Let’s get social

🎙️ We are pleased to announce we are now a signatory of the Business in the Community Race at Work Charter. Ethnic minorities still face significant disparities in employment and progression, and that is something we need to change. The Charter is composed of seven calls to action for leaders and organisations across all sectors. Signing the Charter means taking practical steps to ensure we are tackling barriers that Black, Asian, Mixed Raced and other ethnically diverse people face in recruitment and progression and that their organisations are representative of British society today. #RaceatWorkCharter #raceatwork #scc #strongertogether #responsibility #passion #customerfirst #agility #family Image description: We're proud to sign up to the Race at Work Charter
