Sustainability

Sustainability at SCC

We know technology can have a massive impact on helping to make the world a more sustainable place.

And, as a family-owned company, we want to help our planet thrive for generations to come.

Responsibility is one of our five core values and as Europe’s largest, independent, IT systems integrator we set an example and take sustainability seriously.

We’re committed to being a responsible business that puts our planet, people, prosperity, and principles at the heart of what we do to support our colleagues, customers, and communities.

Our purpose is to help clients succeed through IT transformation and exceptional customer experiences. But it’s our passion for being a truly responsible business that means we put planet, people, prosperity and principles at the heart of how we do things at SCC.

That’s why we’ve brought forward our net zero target to 2040 and put a firm focus on offering products, services, and solutions that put sustainability front and centre.

Our environmental, social and governance (ESG) plans have three key aims:

01

Reduce our environmental impact to the lowest possible level.

02

Invest in, and support, our people, and our communities.

03

Hold our ethics up to scrutiny and always do the right thing.

The delivery of these aims is achieved through our Sustainability Strategy which incorporates the key areas we have identified to monitor and measure ourselves against.

Incorporated into our strategy is our commitment to supporting the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Since 2015, the SDGs have been used to identify and address a range of environmental and social issues.

Having reviewed the SDGs, we have identified the goals that we can make the biggest contribution towards.

When it comes to reducing carbon emissions, we innovate and collaborate to reduce our environmental impact.

Reducing our impact

We’ve brought forward our net zero target to 2040 and put a firm focus on offering products, services, and solutions that put sustainability front and centre.

Read our Carbon Reduction Plan.

Emissions

We walk the talk when it comes to looking after our planet and we continue to explore, implement innovation, and measure our environmental impact.

We use renewable energy systems wherever possible and continue to buy 100% renewable electricity where we have responsibility for the supply.

Energy efficiency projects

We’ve reduced our resource consumption through adopting smart metering and switching technologies to remove dormant and zombie consumption of power.

Reduce, reuse, recycle.

We are a zero waste-to-landfill business and ISO 14001 accredited. Our world-leading recycling facilities generate over 20 recycling waste streams, a service we’ll expand further through the opening of our brand-new operations centre in 2024.

Recyclable Materials

We continually assess and adapt our processes to increase the amount of recyclable materials we use.

Refurbishment and Disposal

Our in-house recycling facility provides a range of services to ourselves and our customers. Once received, we can securely sanitise equipment so it can be refurbished and reused or fully recycled.

We’re an inclusive family business that champions diversity and puts our people and customers first.

IT’s all about you

When our people thrive, our customers and communities benefit.

Our people value proposition is built around living our values through meaningful work and contribution, growth and development, and creating a collaborative culture.

How we do things at SCC is just as important as what we do and it’s important that people can be their true selves at work.

Diversity and inclusion

At SCC, you can be yourself. No matter who you are, where you come from, or who you love.
We know the value of bringing people with different backgrounds, experiences, personalities, and skills together, and we’re proud of our inclusive culture. Our employee-led diversity and inclusion groups are open to all and have been the driving force behind making us a more inclusive employer.

Learning and development

We want to attract, retain, grow, and develop the best talent in our industry.
Our apprenticeship scheme provides on-the-job training, dedicated mentoring and support, and access to our state-of-the-art SCC Academy.
You can find our latest vacancies on our talent hub.

Health, safety, and wellbeing

Our Wellbeing diversity and inclusion group delivers initiatives and projects to support colleagues.
We’ve trained 70 Mental Health First Aiders across our UK business, signed the Menopause Pledge, and continue to explore how we can best support colleagues.
Our health and safety policy underpins our activities and covers all aspects of our business. We’ve also achieved Level 2 certification in the Disability Confident scheme.
We monitor and continually improve our performance in this area and are an ISO 45001 accredited business and members of Achilles, CHAS Contractors Health and Safety Scheme, and Safe Contractor.
