Marubeni-Komatsu
Elevating workspaces and improving employee experience with integrated Audio-Visual Solutions
Overview
Marubeni-Komatsu has been the sole distributor of Komatsu construction and utility equipment in the UK since 1972. Komatsu are the world’s second largest manufacturer of construction equipment and have continually pioneered new, innovative technology products. When introducing Komatsu machinery into the market, Marubeni-Komatsu are committed to focusing on their customers’ business and operational needs, offering quality parts and service back-up, with flexible service and funding options to encourage sustainable growth and reduce total cost of ownership.
With their Head Office based in Redditch, Marubeni-Komatsu wanted to increase and improve the user experience in their office. As part of the wider office refurbishment project and with the increased use of video, there was a requirement to upgrade their Audio Visual (AV) technology to adopt a modern AV and Video Conferencing (VC) solution, with the aim of making it increasingly seamless for users to collaborate and connect with each other and their customers and suppliers.
Challenge
As working practices have become more flexible, Marubeni-Komatsu were facing an increased demand for virtual meetings, especially via Microsoft Teams. To meet this demand, they required an improved and better automated approach, which benefited from the latest technologies. Microsoft Teams Room (MTR) environments were identified as the ideal, professional and uniform solution to their challenge.
Solution
Marubeni-Komatsu chose to work with SCC, to design and deliver a new five-room system that would complement their wider office refurbishment goals. They chose to work with SCC, as they had an 8+ year history of working successfully together. The overall refit project had a three-month timeline, with SCC having a strict two-week implementation window towards the end of the project, which they successfully delivered in.
To ensure the solution delivered the ease-of-use goal that Marubeni-Komatsu desired, SCC fitted each room with an MTR solution for a Teams native experience, which allows the room to simply be invited to a Teams call with the other attendees. Once in the room, the touch panel shows the upcoming meetings, allowing the user to simply select one button to join the call. Users can also join via their laptops or use the HDMI connector to display content on the screens.
The technology in each room was specifically designed to suit the particular room size, enabling a consistent experience for the end user, regardless of the room they were using.
What was delivered?
Service Office
Marubeni-Komatsu uses the service office space for internal monitoring purposes, to demonstrate their capability to potential customers and to provide service metric updates to current customers. For this room, SCC delivered a large wall mounted LED display which allows Marubeni-Komatsu’s service team to track customer metrics. It can also be personalised for incoming customers with welcome messages or capability information.
Product Features
- 4.8m x 1.35m 32:9 LED Hisense Wall display
- 2 x ceiling speakers with wide dispersal
- Flat paneled ceiling speaker with 170-degree dispersal
- Audio matric for independent routing
SCC understands the importance of this space as an area that is used for internal monitoring purposes and to demonstrate Marubeni-Komatsu’s capability to potential customers. Details such as allowing welcome messages to be displayed form a small but important part of the functionality in this area.
Training Room
This is the largest meeting space in the Marubeni-Komatsu office, which benefits from a large, circular table arrangement, allowing many participants to see the front mounted screen and participate in the meeting. There is a lectern next to the screen which allows an individual to stand at the front and present to both in-person and remote attendees.
To ensure equal experience to attendees in the training room and those attending remotely, SCC installed two cameras: one mounted Poly E70 camera above the 98-inch 4K large format display and one Poly E60 camera on the ceiling pointing towards the lectern position. This is complemented by two pairs of ceiling speakers which ensure the whole room is picked up and heard on calls.
