The second coming of DLP

Can lessons learnt from the past equal a better future for Data Loss Prevention solutions?

Gartner recently reported Data Loss Prevention (DLP) as the fastest growing area of information security, with an 18.9% growth rate. This return to prominence is backed up by our own findings at Clearswift, with our recent survey of 200 UK data managers showing that around half of organisations already have DLP solutions in place, and of those that don’t, over 80% are looking to implement them over the next 12 months.

But why have myriad DLP installs failed to date and why must we look to the past, to ensure that we overcome these issues in the future? The simple answer is that the solutions ‘of old’ were simply too rigid. Not allowing the agility required of an organisation, whilst trying to secure the same. This is why the solution must be ‘adaptive’.

Clearswift Adaptive Data Loss Prevention (A-DLP) is the data and people centric solution to critical information protection. Unlike others, A-DLP is a non-disruptive solution which supports continuous collaboration, avoids business interruption and mitigates the risk of financial or reputational damage caused by the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive data wherever it lives – at the endpoint, on premise or in the cloud.

Using unique, award winning Adaptive Redaction technology the Clearswift A-DLP solution is simple to deploy and uses a common policy engine across the suite. A-DLP is able to automatically remove sensitive data and malicious content as it passes in and out of a company network without the need for human intervention; providing a mechanism to overcome the traditional ‘stop and block’ approach, with only the removal of the exact content that breaks policy, enabling the rest of the communication to continue.
