Standards Groups Aim to Get Smart Devices Talking

The Open Interconnect Consortium, which includes companies such as Intel and Samsung, has acquired the 15-year-old Universal Plug and Play Forum in a move designed to accelerate the unification of connectivity standards for Internet of Things devices. UPnP is used to connect wireless devices to home networks and is already said to be used in about three billion devices globally.
