Smart device shipments expected to reach 2.5 billion units
Despite the much-reported decline in PC sales, the number of technology devices being purchased continues to rise, according to figures from Gartner.
The research firm says that worldwide combined shipments of devices (PCs, tablets, ultra-mobiles and mobile phones) are expected to reach 2.5 billion units in 2015, a 1.5% increase from 2014, according to Gartner. End-user spending on devices will total $606 billion.
The overall upward trend is being driven by mobile smartphone sales in the Far East especially. Mobile shipments will account for more than 2 billion of the total, with computing devices shipments (laptops tablets, desktops) expected to be around 566 million.
