Seagate Takes HDD Capacities to New Heights with 10TB Helium Drive
Seagate Technology has launched its first 10TB, 3.5-inch hard disk drive, achieving the industry’s lowest power and weight available in a drive of this capacity, to meet the growing storage requirements of for private and public cloud-based data centres.
Built on years of research and development of sealed-drive technology, the new helium-based HDD provides has seven platters and 14 heads, sealed in a turbulence-free, quiet environment that decreases both friction and resistance delivers the industry’s lowest power/TB ratio and weight specifications for a 10TB HDD. It delivers an improved MTBF of 2.5 million hours and is available in both a 6Gb/s SATA and 12Gb/s SAS interfaces.
