New 16TB High Set for SSD Capacity
The relentless move from hard disk to solid-state is continuing with Samsung now offering a 2.5-inch SSD drive with a capacity of 16TB. The company demonstrated the new PM1633a device at the recent Flash Memory Summit in California. The capacity of the drive – enough to hold old over three million MP3s, more than 4,000 movies, or nearly five million digital photos – exceeds all other previous offerings by around 6GB.
According to reports, the company demonstrated a server using 48 of the SSDs, with a total storage capacity of 768TB and performance rated at 2,000,000 IOPS.
