HP 3PAR StoreServ Named Product of the Year

HP’s 3PAR StoreServ platform has been announced All-Flash Array Product of the Year 2014 by Storage Magazine/SearchStorage.com.StoreServe

Emerging as a Gold Winner in the Storage Systems: All-Flash Systems category,  the HP 3PAR StoreServ 7450 beat the competition due to innovative features to improve price and performance.

To achieve this, Hewlett-Packard added 480 GB and 1.92 TB commercial multi-level cell (cMLC) solid-state drives (SSDs) that can reduce the price of flash to $2 per usable gigabyte with new data reduction features.

Capitalizing on the thin storage technologies that 3PAR pioneered, HP’s StoreServ boasts thin deduplication with Express Indexing and Thin Clones. Hardware-assisted thin dedupe delivers inline, block-level data reduction. It’s powered by the same 3PAR ASIC used for thin provisioning, which offloads CPU cycles to avoid adding latency.

Thin Clones software provides host-assisted deduplication for non-duplicative virtual machine clones with Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware ESXi to avoid increasing capacity consumption.

HP’s Adaptive Sparing feature reduces capacity reserved for SSD wear management, which increases solid-state drive endurance and usable capacity per drive up to 20%.

The HP 3PAR StoreServ 7450 can perform at more than 900,000 IOPS at less than 0.7 milliseconds latency.

One judge praised the 7450 for “very good performance, latency and consistency while maintaining 100% of 3PAR architecture and best-of-breed data services. This is how it should be done [for all-flash arrays].”

Another added, “3PAR was not designed with SSDs in mind, but HP has done a good job adapting the storage system,” and noted that the cMLC drives are unique and innovative.

Calvin Zito, Storage Expert at HP said: “This is such a satisfying recognition for HP 3PAR AFA.”
