EMC acquired by Dell to create end-to-end technology company
Two of the world’s largest technology franchises, Dell Inc. and EMC Corporation, are set to combine to create a premier end-to-end technology company.
The two companies have signed a definitive agreement stating that Dell, together with its owners, Michael S. Dell, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Dell, MSD Partners and Silver Lake, the global leader in technology investment, will acquire EMC, while maintaining VMWare as a publicly-traded company.
The transaction combines two of the world’s biggest technology franchises with leadership positions in servers, storage, virtualisation and PCs, and complementary product and solutions portfolios, sales teams and R&D investment strategies.
EMC asserts that the deal unites strong capabilities in the fastest growing areas of the IT industry, including Digital Transformation, Software Defined Data Centre, Hybrid Cloud, Converged Infrastructure, Mobile and Security.
For customers, the acquisition of EMC by Dell will provide increased ability to address rapidly changing critical IT needs. Digital transformation is driving disruption across all industries; transition from traditional on-premise to hybrid public / private cloud infrastructure; and the need to balance agility and mobile workforces with persistent security threats.
The new company will offer customers a broad, end-to-end product portfolio spanning all key compute, networking and storage segments – both legacy and emerging – to address customers facing technology-driven disruption.
