SCC sponsor a mile stretch of the Grand Union Canal in Birmingham

SCC have re-launched our adoption of a mile stretch of the Grand Union Canal close to our Global HQ in partnership with our long-standing customer the Canal & River Trust.

The Canal & River Trust is committed to bringing life back to over 2,000 miles of waterways. With the recent increase in stress and decline in mental health in the UK the Canal & River Trust work to help improve the wellbeing of communities, commuters and wildlife by providing a tranquil green and blue space for people to enjoy. As part of the adoption SCC is committing to 8 volunteer days led by the trust across the year. During these volunteer days staff will take part in a range of activities to rejuvenate the canals including; litter picking, vegetation and towpath maintenance, painting and much more. We have received great feedback from staff, the trust and the local community on the impact this initiative has had in the past. Andy Simpson, SCC volunteer said “It’s great that with things opening up again we can restart our volunteering. Like many charities, Canal & River Trust has been hit hard over the last year and they are looking for all the support they can get to keep canals safe and a pleasant environment. The canal adoption is a healthy environment where you can help improve the local canal for everyone who uses it.”
