OUR AMBITION

Diversity and Inclusion

At SCC, you can be yourself.

We know the value of bringing people with different backgrounds, experiences, personalities, and skills together, and we are proud of our inclusive culture.

We have created a diversity and inclusion working group which is open to all colleagues across the business.

Aims of the group

Live our values

Support our diverse and inclusive culture

Ensure all our people have a voice

Take action

Recognise and champion our people

Encourage talented people

Raise awareness

We are proud to be represented by people from diverse backgrounds with varied skill sets, experiences and personalities. We are committed to increasing diversity and ensuring equal opportunities exist for all. We recognise that diversity brings a wealth of knowledge and skills that contribute to our continued success.

To further focus our activities, our working group incorporates seven different networks. These networks involve a range of colleagues and have implemented numerous initiatives so we can continue making SCC a diverse and inclusive business.

Become members of the Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion (ENEI).

02

Joined the Disability Confident Scheme and have Disability Confident Level 2 certification status.

Provided access to an employee assistance programme so colleagues can get free, independent, confidential advice and support, if they ever need it.

04

Launched our new benefits package, Balance

05

Signed the Menopause Pledge to take positive action and support colleagues going through the menopause.

06

Introduced Mindful Return, a free course to support colleagues through pregnancy, maternity leave, and their return to work.

Channelweb interview

Sara Wilkes was recently interviewed by Channelweb

This network focuses on ability, not disability. We are members of Neurodiversity in Business and part of the Disability Confident Scheme where we have been recognised with the Disability Confident Level 2 certification.

We promote equality through our recruitment practices and always look to recruit individuals most suited to the role they are applying for. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. To view our current opportunities, have a look at our careers page.

The network also supports our neurodiverse colleagues by raising awareness, educating others and providing support. Through these actions, we continually improve how we support all our colleagues.

We have signed the Menopause Pledge and are committed to taking positive action in ensuring our colleagues going through the menopause are supported.

We pledge to talk openly, positively and respectfully about the menopause and actively support and inform employees affected by the menopause.

We have also implemented Mindful Return, a new and free course to support those on maternity leave who are either currently pregnant, preparing to return to work or have recently returned.

Topics are text-based and provide the flexibility so participants can access the course whenever and wherever is most convenient for them. Participants can also interact with fellow course participants through a private and secure discussion boards within the course portal.

Completed over four weeks, the course incorporates the following topics:

01

Develop a mindset for a smooth and successful return-to-work experience;

02

Brainstorm practical solutions to worrisome logistics;

03

Turn maternity leave into a leadership opportunity at work;

04

Enter a supportive community of new mums going through the same experience.

We celebrate our talented people, encourage them to be themselves and provide them with an environment which supports them in doing this.

Whether you are part of the LGBTQ+ community or an ally wanting to support your colleagues, our Rainbow network is here for you. Our network has implemented a range of initiatives such as providing people with the opportunity to include pronouns on their email signatures and engaging with other organisations to share best practice and enhance the support we provide to colleagues.

In recognition of their contribution, the network won a Founders Award for demonstrating our values.

To continue building an inclusive and supportive culture,our REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage) network celebrates the diversity of our colleagues along with raising awareness and implementing positive changes into our business.

Our network provides the opportunity for people to connect, learn more about representation across the business and highlight the unique and valuable contributions made by all our people.

In recognition of their contribution, the network won a Founders Award for demonstrating our values.

As an IT systems integrator, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) is embedded across our business.

Working with our partners, we want to help dispel any myths around this area, promote it as a fun and exciting sector to work in and use our knowledge and experience to help engage our future talent.

Our network also supports the STEM Ambassador programme. Through this, our people volunteer their time to engage with local schools and communities through a variety of activities enabling them to share their passion and enthusiasm.

To support the ongoing mental and physical health of our employees, we have a team of Mental Health Champions.

Located nationally, each Champion has completed a two day course so they are equipped with the skills to provide support to our colleagues.

We have also implemented Balance and an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). Our EAP provides colleagues with access to a range of services and resources such as the ability to get free, confidential, and impartial advice on a range of topics along with a dedicated app and portal.

Our onsite gym in Birmingham, provides our people with access to a personal trainer and a variety of group exercise classes. For those colleagues based in our regional offices, they can access discounted gym memberships through Balance.

Our aim is to make SCC a better place to work for existing, and future young professionals. We want to attract, retain, develop and support our young professionals.

Whether you are an apprentice, graduate or have recently entered the world of work, our Young Professionals network supports, connects and helps you thrive at SCC. So far, we have completed a range of activities including campaigns, webinars, and surveys to ensure we tailor our support and have exciting plans to continue growing the network.
