SCC and Lancashire Insurance started working together in early 2021, with the goal of developing a cloud strategy for their Test and Development environments. Lancashire were currently going through a business transformation programme, with the aim of modernising their business operations, increasing their agility and the speed of bringing new services into operation. To underpin this future growth, they needed to move a number of their on-premise storage solutions over to the cloud but lacked the knowledge of how to achieve this in house. Due to a lack of specialist cloud skills, they needed to partner with an organisation that had the knowledge and experience to help them develop their Cloud Strategy.  

Amit Tiwari, Group Head of Enterprise Architecture at Lancashire Insurance said: “Our priority to select a Cloud partner was to have someone who has got proven credential in delivering Cloud Migration, who can bring their best practices and expertise in exerting our strategy planning and delivery. We engaged with SCC.” 

The solution

SCC Hyperscale, SCC’s Public Cloud business, were engaged to design the solution and build a road map for application/service migration. Working with Lancashire Insurance, we performed a market scan, which helped to identify Microsoft Azure as being the best offering, as it aligned to their product and technology ecosystem. Amit detailed why Microsoft Azure was chosen: “It also ticked the three key criteria for us. First being, its offerings are aligned to our priorities, second being, it gives us economy of scale and third, it has got better support from our partner and internal capabilities.” 

The new Microsoft Azure environment has modernised the customer’s business operations, by providing a scalable platform which can deliver services to support the business’s future growth aspirations. It allows them to become more agile and flexible, quickly bringing new service lines to market, in line with their customers’ expectations and needs. It also offers their employees new ways of working, to increase productivity and workforce wellbeing. 

Amit said: “Some of the key benefits that we have seen is the pace at which we can deliver the change. We have got our initiatives, which are better aligned to our business and technology priorities and we can see better insights and tracking with what we are doing.”
