In October 2025, SCC launched its AI Development Programme, giving NHS Trusts the opportunity to build fully funded AI pilots that strengthen business cases for wider deployment. The focus is simple: deliver high‑impact, low‑risk AI solutions that create meaningful in‑year cost savings.

One of the biggest pressures on Trusts is the rising cost of Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, estimated at over £40 million a year across the NHS. This burden pulls staff away from clinical care and essential operational work.

To address this, our first pilot is the Freedom of Information Bot—an agentic AI solution that automates both the initial engagement with the requester and the processing of FOIA enquiries. It streamlines workflow, reduces manual effort, and supports staff by automating research and response steps across multiple FOI scenarios.
