Disposal

SCC’s Recycling operation is the UK’s market leading facility for IT. SCC’s unique facility not only houses a comprehensive Asset Management, Remarketing and Refurbishment operation but also has a state of the art Recycling Plant all under one roof. This gives its customer base the added security & comfort that no third parties are required to treat the IT waste once it is delivered to the operation.

The Recycling Plant
Today it houses the latest in shredding and separation technology to efficiently destroy and recover optimum raw
material recyclates from Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).

Depollution
Prior to processing the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), hazardous materials/components are removed from the equipment and separately treated in accordance with Annex II of the WEEE Directive and in line with best practice guidance provided via BATRRT.

Shredding
A powerful four shaft rotary shredder, large enough to process almost any form of whole IT equipment, reduces assembled structures down to 40mm fragments, and in the process, liberates metals, metal bearing materials and plastics. This high-capacity system is capable of processing up to 80 Tonnes of WEEE per day.

Separation
After shredding, the mixed fragments move through an automated separation processes, passing through powerful overband and drum magnets which extract and collect ferrous metal fragments. The residual fragments then pass through an eddy current separator, splitting the plastic and non-ferrous materials into two further, well-defined streams.

Reporting:
SCCs bespoke ‘Lifecycle’ database provides a comprehensive tracking of WEEE loads from the End User’s collection request all the way through segregation, final materials reprocessing and Mass Balance accounting. The system can define recovery rates on specific End User loads and, therefore, provide extensive WEEE reporting output and subsequent evidence for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and regulatory, Environment Agency requirements.
