UK Constabulary

SCC’s Visual Communications Division provides video conferencing equipment and services to a key constabulary in the UK.

“The audio-visual services provided to the Constabulary will have a real operational impact and benefit, as effective communication during interviews is essential to improve efficiency and dramatically reduce travel costs.”

SCC provides the Police force with video conferencing facilities in two key areas, the first of which entailing the delivery of language services to over 160 police stations across London, giving police officers access to translators in central hubs. With over 300 languages spoken in London, this is a significant operational requirement and SCC’s solution will help to significantly reduce travel costs and increase the force’s operational efficiency. The second project, known as Virtual Courts, will link police stations with magistrates’ courts to allow pleas and the presentation of evidence to be carried out via live video links.
These two video conferencing technology projects are expected to expand in the future, as the customer looks to use ‘Virtual Courts’ throughout its organisation, in addition to the likelihood of further projects to cope with the impact of the 2012 London Olympics.

This is a particularly important visual communication project for SCC, not only in terms of the scale of the deployment, but also because it demonstrates our broad service capability around video-conferencing technology including project management, installation, training, and hardware maintenance.

Using video-conferencing systems to provide translation services is an exciting and interesting application of the technology, and illustrates its versatility.
