Home Office

“Helping employees work together more efficiently, through providing a richer, more intimate multi-media communications environment, is the right solution for the Home Office in a time of change.       ”

When the Home Office made the decision to build new, purpose built offices in London to brings together 3,500 employees, previously located in no less than seven separate locations, it undertook a major internal communications effort to ensure what was involved was fully understood.  The plan aimed to save the public purse £95 million through a 30 year PFI contract.

The internal project team made the decision to install a display screen led communications system that would fast familiarise staff about their new and changing work environment, and provide multiple source media content, throughout the new office complex.  The advanced audio-visual  (AV) solution, IPTV and Digital Messaging Network was supplied, installed and is supported by SCC.

The new system can provide up to 130 channels of media content streamed to over 200 screens.  It consolidates news from several sources, and is controlled by the in-house ICT team in order that information can be tailored to suit the location of the display screen and different audiences who have access to it.

Different areas of the building are targeted with relevant content.  For example, the areas where Ministers and their principle aids work from require news bulletin style updates tailored to their briefs. Whilst, in areas of the building with public access, content is wider ranging.

When SCC became involved with the supply of multi-media technologies, it immediately understood what we had set out to achieve and how to link, manage and maintain media content so it remained relevant to our key audiences at all times.
